Hotels, motels and rental houses are the typical spots people stay at for an overnight visit, but beyond those lodging accommodations, Massachusetts offers many unusual and quirky places to stay. For those who are a little bit adventurous — and not very afraid of heights — they may enjoy sleeping among the treetops in a treehouse.

Unlike the often-rickety treehouses kids build, these rental treehouses don’t require a bring-your-own sleeping bag and offer the comforts of home, often fully furnished to give visitors a sense of home-away-from-home.

Treehouses to rent in Massachusetts

Mink Cove Treehouse, Wareham

Mink Cove Treehouse in Wareham is described as “a unique adult adventure,” nestled 12 feet off the ground in Buzzards Bay, overlooking Mink Cove.

This rental is equipped to host two guests and features one double bed and a loft with a twin bed. The one-bedroom, one-bathroom “cozy” treehouse offers balcony views of Wareham’s woods as well as lake views just beyond the treetops.

Travelers seeking an outdoorsy experience in Western Mass. have an opportunity to stay in the modest confines of this treehouse in the Berkshires.

This New Marlborough rental hosts a party of up to five guests and is equipped with three bedrooms, four beds, and a half bath.

It is described as a “glamping” sort of experience as there is no running water on the premises. However, this location does offer a kitchenette with amenities such as a refrigerator, a two-burner cook-top, a coffee maker and an electric tea kettle.

Guests have an opportunity to get away while staying within 10 minutes of UConn, 30 minutes from Hartford, one hour from Boston and two-and-a-half hours from New York City.

It features a 626-acre community forest with 7 miles of hiking trails accessible from the treehouse.

Guests staying at this location have the option of visiting during any season, as it is fully insulated and has a heating pump.

Upon arrival, guests walk up six steps that are built into a boulder, and onto the lower deck where there is a ski bar and cedar hot tub. There are four trees supporting the house, which the decks are built into. There are a total of three decks, with the rear deck housing a hammock.

While there is no TV, wifi and electricity are available on site as well as full plumbing.

This private treehouse offers guests a four-season treehouse surrounded by nature. It is rated in the top 5% of Airbnbs and features a fire pit, pellet stove, deck, grill and fully stocked kitchen.

This space houses up to four guests with two beds and one clean composting toilet in addition to a hot outdoor shower.
